Day 1 of the five-day Event #24: $2,620 THE MARATHON No-Limit Hold'em has come to an end at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino with 706 progressing forward. 1,479 players descended across the Brasilia and Pavillion rooms and created an initial prize pool worth $3,487,482. Late registration in this event is open until the end of level eight on Tuesday, June 12 (approx. 3:30 p.m.), the total number of entrants and prize pool information is set to be finalized at the point.
Pablo Fernandez Campo came through the six 100-minute levels as one of the big stacks with 230,900. Campo finished the day as the eventual runner-up, behind Joshua Smith (234,800). Sanjay Dulabh (230,200) rounded out the top three and also greatly expanded on the special 26,200 starting stack.
A host of familiar faces were among the 591 players who sat down to play the first hand at 11:00 a.m. this morning including Cliff Josephy, Simon Deadman, Samantha Cohen, Marcel Vonk and Maria Konnikova. Bestselling writer turned poker pro, Konnikova, enjoyed early success, which included turning a full house when behind to top two pair on the flop, and continued consistently throughout the day to bag up 81,100 chips.
Other well-known players who will be returning tomorrow include Olivier Busquets (148,000), Ben Heath (142,500),Scotty Nguyen (133,000), Gaelle Baumann (131,600), Faraz Jaka (119,000), Andre Akkari (68,500), Martin Jacobson (63,200), Jesse Sylvia (53,700), Kristen Bicknell (51,400), Cate Hall (47,900), Dzmitry Urbanovich (47,100) and the aforementioned Josephy (42,600).
However, there were a few who inevitably were eliminated during the action such as Kenny Hallaert, three-time bracelet winner Dutch Boyd, fellow bracelet winner Jennifer Tilly, Thomas Muehloecker and 9th place finisher in this event last year, Maurice Hawkins.
Action will resume at noon local time on Tuesday, June, 12 with the blinds at 400/800/100 ante and play will finish after six 100-minute levels or when the tournament reaches the money, whatever scenario comes latest. The official prize pool and payout information will be announced on Day 2 shortly after late registration has closed. They just announced that they will be playing four more hands today and that'll be it. The players will start bagging and return tomorrow for Day 2 of the tournament. Registration will still be open until the end of the second level of Day 2.
Thomas Muehloecker got eliminated from the tournament as we saw him walk from his table out of the tournament area and there were no more chips on the table where he sat all day.
As this tournament is a freezeout, we won't see any of the players who were eliminated today back in the tournament.

Sorel Mizzi opened by raising to 1,500 and he got calls from Scotty Nguyen, Andre Akkari and the player in the big blind.
The flop came down and the big blind and Mizzi checked to Nguyen. Nguyen put out a bet of 2,500 and that was enough to take down the pot.

Carlos Chang just eliminated one player and won a big pot in the process after he tabled pocket aces.
There were three players in the hand when the flop came . The action was checked to the button who bet before Chang raised and the third player in the pot, who was the shortest stack, three-bet all in. The player on the button took several minutes to think before making the call, and Chang also called.
