Johnico, Jones Jump Up

Shamus

With the board showing {5-Hearts}{6-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, it checked to Felicia Johnico who fired a bet of 2,100 and her opponent called. The river brought the {K-Diamonds} and a couple of checks, and Johnico turned over {K-Spades}{3-Hearts}. It was good enough as her opponent mucked, and Johnico dragged the pot.

Johnico has chipped up to an above-average stack, although will have her work cut out for her as Della Jones has been moved to the seat on her left. Jones built up a stack early in the day to become one of the chip leaders, and continues to maintain one of the bigger stacks in the room.

Shamus • Level 9: 300-600, 75 ante

There are 167 players left in Event 51, which means just 50 more eliminations and players will be in the money. The average stack at present is a little over 16,800.

Pot Shipped to Schoenberg

Erica Schoenberg
Erica Schoenberg

Erica Schoenberg has been building a stack, and just grabbed a few more. We came on the hand with the board showing {6-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}{10-Spades}, a mass of chips in the middle totaling about 10,000, and Schoenberg sitting quietly in late position with a bet of 4,200 sitting in front of her.

Her opponent on the button tanked for a while, then somewhat reluctantly let her hand go.

Chips for Boutros

Shamus

Michelle Smith opened for 1,700 from under the gun, and it folded to Lara Boutros. Boutros is another player who has managed to accumulate chips steadily today, positioning herself near the top of the counts as we move through Level 9.

Boutros was snacking on an apple, but set it aside as the action came to her in order to study the size of Smith's bet. She then reraised to 3,200, it folded back around to Smith who called, and the pair saw the flop come {8-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{3-Spades}.

Smith checked, and Boutros wasted little time before firing six light blue chips forward for a bet of 3,000. Smith thought for a moment, then let it go.

Margets Choosing Her Targets

Shamus
Leo Margets
Leo Margets

Most of us first met Leo Margets back in 2009 when she made her deep run in the WSOP Main Event where she finished 27th. Margets moved into the top ten in counts during the early evening and has remained there, continuing to pick her spots carefully as she does.

Just now she limped in from the small blind and her opponent one seat over checked. Both again checked the {4-Hearts}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop, then Margets led for 700 on the {9-Hearts} turn. The river brought the {10-Hearts}, and when her opponent bet Margets let it go.

Soon after Margets had position on the short-stacked player to her right as she watched her raise to 1,300. Margets made it 4,000 to go, and it folded back to her opponent who tanked for a long time before folding. Subsequent banter suggested Margets had a pair of kings while her opponent had folded {A-}{K-}-suited.

One More Break

Shamus • Level 8: 200-400, 50 ante

We've reached the last 20-minute break of the night with the big board showing 207 players still alive. That's just 90 eliminations from the cash.

When players return they'll play two more one-hour levels.

PokerNews' Kristy Arnett has been eliminated (in 248th) — bad news for her, but good for those players still alive who are participating in the Onnit Labs' Last Sticker Standing challenge.

Arnett's elimination does settle one other last-longer competition, however — the one between the ladies of PokerNews. Sarah Grant is the last of the group still with chips as we move toward the end of Level 8.
