Hellmuth Falls Short

Phil Hellmuth on Day 2
Phil Hellmuth on Day 2

Pot-Limit Omaha

Phil Hellmuth started the day very low on chips, and he couldn't pull off the miracle comeback. Right at the start of the day he got a little hope when he managed to find himself a double up.

Hellmuth what under the gun plus one and limped, inviting Daniel Alaei into the pot from the button. Both blinds, Lyle Berman and Daivd Oppenheim, stayed in the pot creating four-way action.

The flop came down {8-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{3-Spades}, and it got checked to Hellmuth who went all in for 18,000. Alaei made the call and both Berman and Oppenheim folded.

Hellmuth showed {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and was up against Alaei's {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades}. The turn was the {J-Diamonds}, and the river the {8-Hearts} keeping Hellmuth's hopes alive.

The very next hand it was all over though, as the 12-time World Series of Poker champion lost his chips to Oppenheim. Hellmuth raised pot under the gun and Oppenheim called from the small blind.

The flop came down {7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs} and Oppenheim bet pot putting Hellmuth to the test. He called.

Phil Hellmuth{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}
David Oppenheim{7-Spades}{6-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}

The turn was the {5-Spades} and the river the {7-Hearts} giving Oppenehim a straight. Hellmuth was eliminated, and he'll have to wait for another chance at bracelet number 13.
