Snippits From The Red Section

Here is how a few small hands recently played out over in the Red Section of the Brasilia Room. On John Juanda's table, there was a flop showing and Juanda had check-raised on opponent who bet 4,250.

Laak Loses One, But Still Doing Well

Phil Laak just dropped back to 66,000, but is still up more than double of what he started the day with. From under the gun, Laak raised to 600 and found two callers, one in middle position and one in the cutoff seat.

Five-Bet from Laak

From middle position, a player raised to 525 and action folded to Phil Laak on the button. He reraised and made it 2,400 to go. Play got back to the original raiser and he reraised to 4,275.

Laak Down

We were in the media tower when we saw a commotion over on Table 370.

Laak-in' It Down

A player in middle position opened with a raise to 1,150. Phil Laak, sitting to his left in a toboggan and red "Action Comics" t-shirt, quickly called, and it folded around.

Laak it Up!

Right about now, life is good for Mr. Phil Laak. He just finished 4th in Event #57: $5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-low Split-8 or Better, which was good for $133,377 and a seat in Annie Duke's Epic Poker League.

Limped Pot Reaps No Rewards

Over on table 291, six players, including Phil Laak and James Van Alstyne, limped into a pot before the dealer spread a flop of .

Two More From Blue

We've picked up on a couple more players here in the Blue section of the Amazon Room, with Phil "The Unabomber" Laak over on table 291, seat three.

Phil Laak Eliminated in 4th Place ($133,377)

Phil Laak was under the gun and raised to 80,000, which David Bach called from the big blind. Both players checked the flop, leading to the on the turn. Bach checked for a second time, and after a moment's thought, Laak fired out 150,000.

Trevor Reader Eliminated in 5th Place ($99,512)

Phil Laak raised to 75,000 under the gun and found a caller in Nick Binger in the cutoff. When action reached Trevor Reader in the small blind, he potted to 330,000, which both Laak and Binger called.

Nick Schulman Eliminated in 7th Place ($56,729)

David Bach raised to 75,000 in middle position and was called by Phil Laak in the cutoff. When action reached Nick Schulman in the big blind, he announced a raise and made it 245,000 more to go.

Laak vs. Reader

Trevor Reader raised to 63,000 from the cutoff and Phil Laak defended from the big blind. Both players checked the flop, leading to the turn. Laak opted to lead out for 116,000, which inspired a quick fold from Reader.

A Little for Schulman

Nick Schulman raised to 60,000 from early position and was called by Phil Laak in the small blind. Both players proceeded to check the flop, as well as the turn.

Action Slowing

It seems the action has slowed to a crawl as of late. In a recent hand, action folded to Phil "Unabomber" Laak in the cutoff and he raised pot. It was enough to clear the field and allow Laak to take down the blinds.

Laak and Bach

Under the gun, Phil Laak opened to 57,000, and the table folded all the way around to the man on his right. From the big blind, David Bach potted it to 183,000, and Laak tanked and called to proceed.

One for Schulman

Nick Schulman raised to 50,000 from early position and found a caller in the form of Phil Laak in the small blind. The Unabomber then turned around and led out for 63,000 on the flop, which Schulman called.

Allen Kessler Eliminated in 9th Place ($33,352)

In late position, Phil Laak opened to 70,000, and Allen Kessler three-bet shoved for 126,000 from the small blind. Laak waited for the count, and he clearly did not like the spot.

Yockey Unabombed

Action folded to Phil Laak on the button and he potted to 52,000, which Bryce Yockey called from the big blind. It was heads up to the flop, which saw Yockey check-call a bet of 48,000.

Brent Wheeler Eliminated in 10th Place ($25,874)

First into the pot, Brent Wheeler made it 52,000 to go from middle position. He found action in three spots as Phil Laak, Nick Binger, and Nick Schulman all came along with him, the latter calling in position from the button.

A New Qualifier

One thing we're keeping a good eye on this summer is the race to qualify for the new Epic Poker League, run by Federated Sports + Gaming.
