Powell Wins Crucial Showdown to Adavance Over Merkow

End of the road for Gregg Merkow
End of the road for Gregg Merkow

The match turned into a shove-fest this level as the blinds had gotten very big.

Powell open shoved and Merkow looked down at a monster and called all-in for 478,000.

Powell: {5-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Merkow: {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}

Powell couldn't believe the cooler in front of him and pleaded for a five.

The board ran {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to give the Australian what he wanted. He'll advance to play Leif Force in the semi-finals.

Clock Paused

We just had an interesting hand develop. Gregg Merkow and Julian Powell were at the river on a board of {4-Diamonds} {7-Hearts} {A-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {5-Hearts}. Powell checked, Merkow bet 110,000 and Powell thought about his action.

While considering his action, Powell exposed his hand - {A-Hearts} {6-Diamonds}. Which is legal in a heads up format. The floorman paused the clock after the hand to verify that Powelll's move was in fact legal. It was confirmed and play is back in action.

Frankenberger Defeated by Force, Who Advances

No 2nd bracelet for Andy Frankenberger
No 2nd bracelet for Andy Frankenberger

We'll have a first-time bracelet winner here today after Andrew Frankenberger was eliminated by Leif Force.

Force was on the button and set Frankenberger all-in for his last 330,000 chips. Frankenberger thought for a minute and made the call.

Frankenberger: {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Force: {a-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}

The board ran {10-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{4-Clubs}.

Frankenberger winced when he saw his opponent's cards. He was hoping for a chopped pot, at least, but the river didn't come to his rescue.
